How to Cast Out Unclean Demonic Spirits

In the realm of spiritual warfare, we have nothing to fear because we are fully equipped with the armor of God to stand firm against the schemes of the enemy (Ephesians 6:10-11). We have the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation, all designed to protect us from the enemy’s attacks.

We must not forget that in our spiritual arsenal we also carry the powerful sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:12). This reminder assures us that our role in spiritual warfare is not limited to mere defense—we are called to proactively attack the enemy. The sword is a mighty weapon that uses God’s Word to defeat Satan. By integrating His Word into our prayers and boldly declaring His promises, we engage in effective and authoritative spiritual battle. Armed with this divine weapon, we demolish the enemy’s strongholds, and unclean spirits are cast out, defeated by the Word of God (Hebrews 4:12). With this assurance, we can face spiritual warfare with confidence, knowing that we are conquerors through Him who loved us.

Key Elements to Include in Your Prayer

  • Humility: In spiritual warfare, humility is foundational to ensuring our prayers are effective. Scripture reminds us to submit ourselves to God, resist the devil, and draw near to God with clean hearts (James 4:7-8). Recognizing our need for God’s grace and forgiveness for our sins, we seek His cleansing and authority to overcome the forces of darkness.
  • Repentance: Genuine repentance, as described in Acts 3:19, involves turning away from sin and seeking forgiveness from God. Additionally, 1 John 1:9 assures us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It is through sincere repentance that we acknowledge our need for God’s mercy and grace, paving the way for His transformative work in our lives.

  • Identification: Identify the specific unclean spirit or spirits that may be influencing or oppressing you. By recognizing and naming the specific unclean spirit or spirits that may be exerting influence or oppression, you gain clarity in your battle against them. In Mark 5:9 and Luke 9:42, we see examples of Jesus identifying unclean spirits and commanding them to leave. Understanding the nature of the spiritual opposition you face empowers you to confront it effectively through prayer and faith.

  • Renunciation: Renounce or reject any involvement or agreement with the unclean spirit. By confessing and renouncing sin or influence that may have allowed the spirit to gain a foothold, you cut off its hold over your life (James 4:7). This act of renunciation emphasizes the importance of turning away from sin and breaking any ties with darkness (Ephesians 5:11) to fully embrace God’s cleansing and deliverance.

  • Command: In the name of Jesus Christ, command the unclean spirit to leave. This is done with authority, recognizing that Jesus has given believers the authority to cast out demons (Mark 16:17, Luke 10:17).

  • Claim the Blood of Jesus: Emphasize the power of the blood of Jesus in overcoming the enemy. By claiming the blood of Jesus, you acknowledge His sacrificial death for the forgiveness of sins and protection from evil forces (Revelation 12:11).

  • The Word of Our Testimony: Revelation 12:11 also promises that we overcome the enemy by the word of our testimony. Our testimony is that Jesus died for our sins, defeated death, saved us, cleansed us to make us holy and righteous, and renewed our relationship with God. Revealing our testimony not only strengthens our triumph over the enemy, but it serves as a powerful testament to God’s redemptive work, offering hope and encouragement to others seeking the same transformative grace in their lives.

  • Assurance of Deliverance: Remember that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered (Joel 2:32). The promise of deliverance is reiterated in Romans 10:13 through faith in Jesus. This assurance is a foundation of spiritual warfare, reminding us that no matter how terrifying or dreadful the spiritual battle may seem, we have the unwavering promise of God’s deliverance when we place our trust in Him.

  • Protection: Pray for God’s protection and the filling of the Holy Spirit to replace the void left by the departing spirit. Trust in Psalm 91:11-12, which assures us that God’s angels will guard and protect us in all our ways, or Psalm 91:1-2 which emphasizes God’s role as our protector and refuge when we seek shelter in Him.

  • Continued Prayer: Continue seeking God and studying His Word—walking in obedience to maintain freedom and resist any future attacks. This continuous commitment to spiritual growth and obedience will help prevent the return of unclean spirits, ensuring lasting victory in your spiritual warfare.

Prayer for Casting Out Unclean Demonic Spirits

“Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You in the name of Jesus, with a need for Your grace and mercy. I fully submit myself to You as Lord, and I come to you seeking a clean heart and Your forgiveness.

Lord, I forgive any person who has ever harmed me or wrong me. I forgive them just as I want you to forgive me.

I repent for my sins, and turn away from all unrighteousness in my life, and I thank You for Your faithfulness and forgiveness.

And I now claim your promise: whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered. I am calling on you now in Jesus’ name. Deliver me from all unclean spirits. I reject them, they are not my friends, they are my enemies. I renounce them, and I command them to go from me now. In the name of Jesus.

Under the authority Jesus has given me over Satan, and as a servant of the Kingdom of God, I command every unclean spirit to come out.”

(Name the unclean spirits that are influencing/oppressing you. See here for a full list of unclean spirits)

“The spirit of ____________; come out in Jesus name. I have power and authority over you, and I command you to come out and leave right now, in Jesus name.

Release me, leave my body, in the name of Jesus. You’ve been defeated by the blood of Jesus. Jesus is Lord over my life. He is King. I have power over serpents, scorpions, and all the power over the enemy; and God has promised me that nothing shall by any means hurt me. You have to obey the word of God. You have to obey the servants of God. I stand against Satan, and all of his demons, in the name of Jesus. You have to go. In Jesus’ name.

Lord, I pray for Your divine protection. Fill me with the Holy Spirit, and allow Your angels to protect me, just as Your Word promises.

No weapon formed against me will prosper. Any instrument, plot, scheme, or attack Satan tries to use against me will not work. This is my heritage as a child of God. God has not given me the spirit of fear. He has given me the Spirit of power, love, and of a sound mind.

Now, Lord, I thank you for delivering me, and I believe that I have been delivered because your word tells us that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered. Thank you for your promise of always protecting me.

I commit to continued prayer, seeking You, studying Your Word, and walking in obedience to maintain the freedom You have granted me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
