How to Keep Going When You Have Nothing Left
Ecclesiastes 11:4: “He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.”
A good thing can distract you from doing the right thing. Some of the activities currently holding your attention are actually not bad. But if they’re not what God told you to do, they’re a distraction.
There’s this concept called creative avoidance; it’s when you engage in productive activities to avoid doing what truly needs to be done. But what it really is, is procrastination.
Procrastination is delaying or postponing something that you know you’re supposed to do now.
Procrastination is a prideful act. If there are things God has told you to do, and you choose not to do them, you are essentially saying your plans and timing are more important than His.
What’s the disconnect?
Procrastination isn’t really the root of the problem. The real issue is anxiety — worrying about an undesirable outcome and doubting that you’ll get the outcome you desire.
Naturally, when you don’t know something, you worry about all the things that can go wrong. So much so that worrying becomes your focus instead of focusing on things you can do to drive you closer to that outcome.
If you want to get rid of procrastination, get better information. You need information that will motivate you to take the form of action that brings you closer to your desired outcome.
Writing out and looking at your goals are great. Setting reminders for yourself to make progress is fantastic. Making a vision board of the end result is amazing. But you need that combined with content that comes directly from God.
Read God’s word but specifically focus on His promises. Pray those promises over your situation and walk in confidence, knowing that as God’s Word is always true, what He promised in His Word will soon become your reality.
